Archaeologists and researchers believe popcorn first originated 5000 years ago in Mexico, and that North and South American Indians regularly enjoyed it as a both a snack and game by throwing it on sizzling hot stones and tending it as it popped off in different directions.

Made up of Indian corn, pod corn, popcorn, sweet corn and field corn, it's estimated that today Americans eat over one billion pounds of popcorn annually. That's where Carmel Corn Cottage "pops" in. We've been providing fresh, daily popped popcorn to Nashville's three million annual visitors since 1979. But this isn't necessarily the same popcorn that your grandfather enjoyed.
